Dollar General Presentation Series

The Dollar General Literacy Foundation and the National Coalition for Literacy are holding the Dollar General Presentation Series, meetings on adult literacy, around the country. Since 2006, five meetings have been held in: Nashville, TN; Phoenix, AZ; Baltimore, MD; Spartanburg, SC; and Houston, TX. The Series continues this fall in Columbia, MO on October 14th. NCL has developed these regional, one day conferences, in collaboration with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, and local literacy organizations. The format includes presentations on: national policy and the importance of advocacy; representatives from the field discussing their advocacy successes; and an overview of community – business partnerships. NCL and local partners work together to identify issues, invite business partners and recruit experts.

The National Coalition for Literacy and its member organizations are on the cutting edge of policy, practice, and research in adult education, family literacy, and English language development. NCL’s objectives include building capacity at the local level and raising public awareness about literacy issues.

For the wrap-up of the 2006-07 meetings, please read the Dollar General Series 2006-07. Meeting notes and news along with advocacy resources and links from recent meetings appear on the following pages.
