DOLLAR GENERAL PRESENTATION SERIES The Dollar General Literacy Foundation and the National Coalition for Literacy are holding the Dollar General Presentation Series, meetings on adult literacy, around the country. Since 2006, meetings have been held in: Nashville, TN; Phoenix, AZ; Baltimore, MD; Spartanburg, SC; Houston, TX; and Columbia, MO. NCL has developed these regional, one day conferences, in collaboration with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, and local literacy organizations. The format includes presentations on: national policy and the importance of advocacy; representatives from the field discussing their advocacy successes; and an overview of community – business partnerships. NCL and local partners work together to identify issues, invite business partners, and recruit experts. The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has supported the National Coalition for Literacy in its efforts to promote adult education and literacy and empower adult literacy professionals and adult learners to be advocates. Beginning with the 2009 meetings in the Series, NCL, with the generous support of Dollar General, will award two $5,000 grants to local agencies, attending the Presentation Series, to support their advocacy and marketing efforts.
