DOLLAR GENERAL PRESENTATION SERIES
About
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation and the National Coalition for Literacy are holding the Dollar General Presentation Series, meetings on adult education and literacy, around the country. The Coalition has developed these regional symposia in collaboration with the Dollar General Literacy Foundation and local literacy organizations. The day covers national policy and why it is important to educate others on adult education issues; representatives from the field discussing their advocacy successes; and an overview of community—business partnerships. The Coalition and local partners work together to identify issues, invite business partners, and recruit experts.
The National Coalition for Literacy and its member organizations are on the cutting edge of policy, practice, and research in adult education, family literacy, and English language development. The Coalition’s objectives include building capacity at the local level and raising public awareness about education and literacy issues.
Advocacy Grants
The Dollar General Literacy Foundation has supported the National Coalition for Literacy in its efforts to promote adult education and literacy and empower adult literacy professionals and adult learners to be advocates. Beginning with the 2009 meetings in the Series, the Coalition, with the generous support of Dollar General, will award two $5,000 grants to local agencies, attending the Presentation Series, to support their advocacy and marketing efforts. Grantees are selected based on:
- the proposed advocacy and marketing plan,
- capacity to implement the plan,
- demonstrated support from organization staff and leadership, and
- their ability to engage community partners in a substantive way.
