Criteria for Membership

NCL Members are national not-for-profit organizations with a substantial focus on adult education (e.g. adult education and family literacy, GED(R) testing and instruction, ESOL and immigration issues, ABE, ASE, etc.). All NCL Members are expected to support NCL’s public policy principles and positions. Additional factors to be considered include:

  • The organization maintains a presence in Washington, DC.

Benefits

Members have the opportunity to engage directly with one of the leading literacy organizations in the USA. Members of NCL are able to fully participate in the development and adoption of NCL’s official public policy positions. Members receive public policy updates, including legislative updates and advocacy opportunities. Also, Members may vote on literacy and public policy issues; in doing so, they have the opportunity to make a direct impact on issues and to collectively inform decision makers on the needs of the field. Members may participate in quarterly meetings held in Washington, DC, to participate in national advocacy efforts, to share innovations that benefit adult education, and to contribute to the success of the organization. Members may also provide input and share innovations and literacy information through the Members Discussion List.
