About National Adult Education and Family Literacy Week
On September 7, 2011, the US Senate passed S. Res. 258 by unanimous consent declaring the week of September 12-18, 2011 Adult Education and Family Literacy Week in the United States. The resolution was introduced by Senator Patty Murray (WA) and co-sponsored by Senators Lamar Alexander (TN), Mark Begich (AK), Benjamin L. Cardin (MD), Robert P. Casey, Jr. (PA), Michael B. Enzi (WY), Tim Johnson (SD), Barbara A. Mikulski (MD), Lisa Murkowsi (AK), Debbie Stabenow (MI), Jim Webb (VA), and Sheldon Whitehouse (RI). Supported by the National Coalition for Literacy, this is a dedication to raise public awareness of adult education and family literacy, assist adult learners in need of literacy services, leverage local resources, and support increased access to adult education and family literacy programs. Use this opportunity to elevate adult education and family literacy nationwide with policymakers, the media, and the community.
Thanks for all you do!
