Testimony

December 2010 The National Coalition for Literacy writes Appropriations leadership and House Adult Literacy Caucus Members opposing any effort to leave FY11 funding decisions to the next Congress; a Congress anxious to cut discretionary non-military, non-security spending during a time when we need to increase access to adult education and literacy programs.

The Department of Education’s NETP does not sufficiently address adult education. The Coalition adopted the response to the plan written by the NCL Task Force on the NETP. Thank you to Heidi Silver-Pacuilla, John Fleischman, Steve Reder, Tim Ponder, David Rosen, Marian Thacher, Marian Fedele, and Jackie Taylor for leading this effort. NCL will advance these issues as the NETP moves forward.

In the largest response to any survey conducted by the Coalition, nearly 800 individuals weighed in on what they value as the most critical services the National Institute for Literacy provides to the adult education community. The report details these results. See the cover letter for information on how NCL developed the report.
